Sin Still Kills!
Romans 6:23  “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

not a joke! Sin kill’s! The wages of sin is death……
not a joke! Sin kill’s! The wages of sin is death……

not a joke! Sin kill’s! The wages of sin is death……

You may be sitting here this morning thinking, “I know that sins wages are death, I am
already saved, so why do I need to hear this?   I could have gone somewhere and heard
“How to make my marriage sizzle;” or how I am supposed to go to the hurting and helpless
of this world, build houses, and cure AIDS- but remember- sickness, disease, hurts,
heartbreak, wars, turmoil, are all the result of the death of sin!

Also remember, that the Apostle Paul was writing to the Church at Rome- 1:7; “To all that
be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints:”
He is writing this letter to these believers to let them know of the greatness of the grace
and mercy of God in justifying them through the redemption of Christ on the cross. Look in
3:20-27
Sin kills- Adam and Eve- ye shall surely die;   Ro. 5:12  Sin brings death on all men…but;

I. WHAT IS SIN?

    A.  The Transgression of the law

    1 John 3:4  Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the
    transgression of the law.

    To violate the commandments of Go.  Many today have no regard for God’s
    commands-  Killing, lying, cheating, adultery, fornication, covetousness, worship
    God the way they want rather than the way He commands.  Anyone who dares
    to remind people today of what God says, is called harsh, unloving, legalistic,
    etc.

    People think they have the right to live anyway that they want to live, and God
    will love and accept them anyway.

    B.  Not doing what you know is the right thing to do

    James 4:17  Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him
    it is sin.

    We all know many things that we should do. God has revealed them to us in His
    Word.

    Witness, Read His Word, pray, love, help, serve, forgive……. Yet we do not do
    these things… Why?  Because we want to do what we want to do-We want to
    serve when we fell like it, we want to forgive, when we feel like someone has
    paid enough, we want to read the Bible when it is convenient, or we are trying
    to find a nice thoughtfor the day--- This according to the Word of God is sin

    C.  Missing the Mark

    Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

    We try to do our best, achieve greatness, education, success, help others,
    travel the world helping the poor, the broken, sick, but none of these thing will
    give us any standing with God!  He is perfect-and sin makes us not perfect and
    completely unacceptable to God-no matter how much we try-Galatians 2:16

II. WHO SINS?

    A.  All

    Romans. 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

    B.  You and I

    1 John 1:8  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is
    not in us.

    When we live selfishly, when we live in a way that hurts others, when we are
    angry, bitter, lazy, etc. this is not someone else’s fault; It is because we want to
    live our own way-this is sin!  Our problem is that we are not willing to admit it,
    and to call it what it is; this results in all sorts of problems; within ourselves, our
    families, our church, our job etc.

III. WHAT IS THE RESULT OF SIN?

    A.  DEATH
    The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the
    father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of
    the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be
    upon him.  Ezekiel 18:20

    1. Physical

    2. Spiritual
    Rev. 21:8  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and
    murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all
    liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and
    brimstone: which is the second death.

    3. Lifestyle
    The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy…
    Think of the broken lives, and the broken messed up homes; the
    choices you have made that have resulted in heartache, and
    disappointment; the effects of sin are terrible upon our world- Children
    10 an under most violent in Great Britain;  Bi-polar disorders have
    risen from 20,000 diagnosed cases I 1194 to over 800,000 in 2003;
    the wages of sin-there is a way that seems right to a man, but the end
    thereof, is destruction

What about you? How do you sin?  Transgression; Omission; failing to live up to
God’s standard?
