Looking to Jesus.

Matthew 14:30 - But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid;
and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

This Friday’s Focus is rather short, but hopefully, right to the point.

    Peter saw Jesus coming towards them on the water-He
    was amazed at the power of God clearly evident in the
    life of Jesus. He asked that Jesus command him to
    come out on the water with him. We read that Jesus
    commanded Peter to come out of the ship and to walk
    on the water with him!  Peter I am sure was completely
    overwhelmed with excitement! He was walking on the
    water! This couldn’t be happening, and yet here he was!
    I am sure he looked back at the boat towards the other
    disciples with a big silly grin on his face!

Yet, he also saw something else. He saw the waves, and felt the power of the
wind. He saw the stormy sea, and he panicked! He began to sink because He took
his eyes off of the Lord!

It is easy for all of us to do this if we are not careful.  We are living in troubling
times; nothing seems to make sense; it seems like our country has changed over
night! All of the hope and change promised has turned into a nightmare of worry
and fear, and for many, it seems like we are sinking. Others who are not as
focused on the problems in our nation so much, are facing other storms. There are
problems and storms in their marriage, with their children, and in dealing with
other relationships. It seems like there is no solution. It seems like there is no
way to get through the storm  and they are sinking fast! Yet, there is an answer;
It is THE ANSWER!

We must look to Jesus! The writer of
Hebrews reminds in chapter 12:1-2;

1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud
of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so
easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy
that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is
set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Let’s run with patience; keep on going, no matter how much it looks like
everything is falling apart, we are to keep on going putting our trust in the Lord.
We are to look to Jesus the author and the finisher. He started the race, and He
has already completed it!  Keep your eyes on Him!

There are others (the great crowd of witnesses) who have run the race, they have
faced the challenges and the storms of life, and have found our Lord faithful and
strong enough to lift them up when they were sinking, and to walk along side
them to safety!

Give thanks to Him everyday that we are guaranteed to finish the race in this life
victoriously, because He has!
